5 Ways to Spice Up Your Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a popular choice when it comes to having an easy, quick, and healthy meal to start your day.

Its long list of benefits includes lowering cholesterol and blood sugar levels, reducing instances of skin irritation, and lessening constipation.

But, eating oatmeal every day can get boring—so, we’ve put together a list of ways you can get creative with your oatmeal so you can look forward to breakfast every day:

  1. Try different tastes, textures, teas, and toasting.

Aside from topping your oatmeal with bananas, strawberries, and maybe even kiwis and avocados, experiment with dried fruit for chewiness; other nuts, grains, nibs, and granola for extra crunch; or even chai and other herbal teas for a more aromatic taste. If you have more time, melt some butter in a pan, and toast your oats for around five minutes before prepping.

  1. Add some salt, spice, and everything nice.

Salt, as a flavor enhancer, brings out the nuttiness and toastiness of oats. Add a pinch to boost the taste. You can also try adding miso and dried seaweed, or even some braised greens and mushrooms to spice up the flavor.

  1. Make it creamy and dreamy.

Toppings and mix-ins like roasted squash, sweet potatoes, or yogurt not only add flavor to your oats, but they also make it a lot richer and creamier. Your chosen nut butters also pack in more sweetness, texture (for chunky and crunchy nut butters), and creaminess—they are a good source of protein, too!

  1. Turn them into proats to help hit your macros.

If you’re one to seriously track your macros, throwing in a scoop or two of whey protein can be a game-changer. It’s an easy way to help reach your daily protein requirement, plus it adds flavor to your meal—it’s like hitting two birds with one stone! Or, if you want to do away with the extra flavoring, stirring in an egg white or two can do the trick as well.

  1. Coat and soak at night, grab and go in the morning.

Overnight oats are a game-changer. All you’ll need are your oats, milk or milk alternative, and a shaker! Oats Overnight spoils you with a healthy and delicious variety of oatmeal flavors. Rip, mix, pop in the fridge, and it will be ready to eat in the morning!
